Hypnosis FAQ.
Demystifying clinical hypnotherapy — your most common questions, answered honestly.
What is clinical hypnotherapy?
A focused, deeply relaxed state in which the subconscious mind becomes receptive to positive suggestions. You remain aware and in full control throughout.
Will I lose control or be made to do something silly?
No. Stage hypnosis is entertainment. Clinical hypnotherapy is a therapeutic conversation — you cannot be made to do anything against your values.
Is it safe?
Yes. Hypnotherapy with a qualified clinical practitioner is gentle, evidence-informed, and has been used safely for decades.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the issue. Smoking cessation can be one or two sessions. Deeper patterns like anxiety or trauma usually unfold across a short series.
What if I can't be hypnotised?
Almost everyone can enter hypnosis. If you can daydream, you can be hypnotised. Cathy will tailor the approach to your style of thinking.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes — see the Online Therapy page. Many clients find online sessions just as effective as in-clinic.
What does a session feel like?
Like a deeply restful daydream. Most clients describe it as the most relaxed they've felt in years.
Is it covered by NDIS or private health?
Therapies for NDIS clients are available. Private health rebates depend on your fund.
